Agra Fort is one of the major tourist attractions of India and it is located in the grand Agra City of India. This grand fort is also known as the Red Fort of Agra. The Agra Fort is located about 2.5 km away from the Taj Mahal which is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. This Fort can also be considered as the walled regal city of India.
The grand Agra Fort carries a great importance for India because the ancient Mughal rulers like Akbar, Jahangir, Shah Jahan and Humayun lived in this fort. This grand fort has been declared as the World Heritage Site by UNESCO. During the primordial Mughal era, this grand fort was used to govern and administrate the country. The Agra Fort is greatly visited by various Indian Ambassadors and other famous dignitaries who participated in comprising the history of India.
In the earlier times, this grand fort was made up of ordinary bricks. It was only during the reign of the great Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan that this fort. Unfortunately, at the end of his life, he was imprisoned in the same fort by his son Aurangzeb. This grand fort has also been the witness to many of the battles which took place during the Indian Rebellion. Later on, these battles resulted in the downfall of the East India Company and the British rule.
The grand Agra Fort encloses an area of about 94 acres and the arpeggio of this fort lies analogous to the river. The fort is well comprised with four grand forts out of which one of the gates opens to the river. The main attractions of this fort are the two grand gates and they are the Delhi Gate and the Lahore Gate. The fort also comprises of a Bengali Mahal which was later divided into Akbari Mahal and Jahangiri Mahal. This fort also includes a perfect blend of Hindu and Islamic architecture.
